Kenyan Coffee FAQs
-
MiBebee is a Kenyan coffee company working directly with our family farms in Kiambu, Central Kenya. We supply high-quality Kenyan Arabica as green beans and roasted coffee to coffee lovers, cafés and roasters across the UK, Europe and Asia.
-
We work directly with our family farms in Kiambu, supplying single-origin Kenyan Arabica with full traceability. We focus on AA, AB and Peaberry grades, offering green beans for roasters and roasted coffee for retail and hospitality, connecting origin directly to buyers in the UK and Europe.
-
Our coffee is grown at high altitude in Kiambu County, Central Kenya. The region is known worldwide for premium washed Arabica with clarity, complexity and natural sweetness.
-
Kenyan coffee is graded by bean size and shape. AA beans are the largest (screen 17/18), AB beans are slightly smaller (screen 15/16), and PB, or Peaberry, are small, rounded beans that grow singly inside the coffee cherry. Each grade brings its own character to the cup.
-
Kenyan AA beans are larger and prized for bright acidity and intense fruit notes. AB beans are slightly smaller but offer excellent balance, sweetness and body, making them ideal for espresso and milk-based drinks. Our AB beans are also used in our Kenyan coffee liqueur and ready-to-drink Espresso Martini for their structure and depth.
-
Peaberry forms when a coffee cherry grows a single round bean instead of the usual two flat-sided halves. Only a small share of each harvest is peaberry, and its dense, rounded shape roasts evenly for a concentrated, lively cup. MiBebee PB is available roasted and as green coffee for roasters.
-
Kenyan AA is ideal for filter coffee, pour-over, V60, Chemex and batch brew, where its bright fruit notes and complexity can shine.
-
MiBebee AB works exceptionally well for espresso, milk-based drinks, espresso martinis and coffee liqueurs, thanks to its chocolate, caramel and rounded sweetness. It is the key ingredient in our MiBebee Coffee Liqueur and Espresso Martini.
-
AB grade combines vibrant acidity with a smooth, rounded body, giving a rich espresso with notes of blackcurrant, citrus, caramel and dark chocolate. It is a favourite among specialty roasters and home baristas, and ours is sourced directly from our family farms and trusted growers for freshness and traceability.
-
Ruiru 11 is a modern Kenyan Arabica variety developed for disease resistance and consistent quality. It produces a clean, balanced cup with notes of citrus, caramel and soft fruit, while keeping the character Kenyan coffee is known for.
-
SL28 is a celebrated Kenyan Arabica variety, selected by Scott Agricultural Laboratories in the 1930s. It is prized for its complex, wine-like acidity and blackcurrant notes, and is one of the reasons Kenyan coffee is so highly regarded in specialty coffee.
-
Yes. Every MiBebee coffee is single origin, grown in Kiambu County, Central Kenya, rather than blended with beans from other countries. That means you taste the true character of Kenyan Arabica in every cup.
-
High altitude, rich volcanic soils, celebrated varieties such as SL28 and careful washed processing give Kenyan coffee its vivid acidity, juicy body and signature blackcurrant notes, making it one of the most sought-after origins in specialty coffee.
-
Yes. Cold brewing softens Kenyan coffee’s bright acidity and brings out its natural sweetness, with notes of blackcurrant, citrus and chocolate. It is also the base of our Cold Brew Negroni recipe.
-
MiBebee coffees typically show notes of blackcurrant, citrus, honey, plum, black tea and chocolate. The exact profile depends on the grade and roast level.
-
Most Kenyan coffee is fully washed: ripe cherries are pulped, fermented, washed in clean water and dried slowly on raised beds. This careful process creates the clean, bright and juicy cup Kenya is famous for.
-
Kenya has two harvests. The main crop is picked from around October to December, with a smaller early, or fly, crop from around April to June.
-
Keep coffee in its resealable pouch or an airtight container, somewhere cool and dark, away from heat and moisture. For the best flavour, grind just before brewing and enjoy within a few weeks of opening.

We recommend AB grade. Its chocolate, caramel and rounded sweetness stand up beautifully to vodka and coffee liqueur, with a bright Kenyan lift on the finish.
